Skagway Tours is an Alaskan company, locally-owned and operated by Mike Vondette, a long-time resident of Skagway, AK. For 25+ years, Mike has been sharing his love of Alaska, as a tour guide. His business card doesn’t say owner – it says, ‘lead driver!’

Skagway Tours launched in 2014, based on his simple idea, “combine affordability with excellence, the flexibility to stop when we spot something interesting, and a guarantee you’ll get back to your ship on time.”

Mike infuses his guides with the know-how, local knowledge, and passion. On every tour, he’s dedicated to providing engaging, memorable, high-quality experiences.

“Our guides are not just drivers; they’re storytellers and local experts.”— From Mike Vondette, Lead Driver, Skagway Tours

“We had Noah as our driver on the White Pass and Yukon Suspension Bridge tour, and it was beyond worth it.”  — From Reiland E on Google.

“My family LOVED this excursion with Skagway Tours.  Our tour guide, Epaul, was incredible. We were debating between doing this and the train, but we ended up going with the bus tour because we felt that it would be nice to be able to get out and take pictures, not to mention that it is way cheaper!”  — From Joell Tam on Google

“We had a group of 17 who really enjoyed our tour with Daniel!  He was knowledgeable… He knew we loved to take photos and knew exactly where to stop. Planning and booking was easy thanks to Jessica.” — From Szymon Krasucki on Google

Knowledgeable and Engaging Guides

Passengers consistently praise our local guides for their deep knowledge of Skagway’s history, particularly the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush, and their ability to make tours fun and informative.

Stunning Scenery with Frequent Photo Stops

The breathtaking landscapes along the South Klondike Highway—mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, and lakes—are a major draw. Guests love the multiple stops (6 – 8 on most tours) for photos at iconic spots like the ‘Welcome to Alaska’ sign, Pitchfork Falls, and Tormented Valley, which allow for memorable shots that train tours can’t match.

Value for Money

Compared to the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, we cover more ground with added perks like the chance to stop at the Yukon Suspension Bridge or go to an authentic musher’s camp. A road tour provides ample time to get out and compose the perfect picture against a jaw-dropping, scenic backdrop. The combination of scenery, history, and activities is a fantastic deal.
